NCFP’s Community Foundations Family Philanthropy Network supports the special roles community foundations play with philanthropic families as a trusted resource and partner. A National Advisory Committee, chaired by Jennifer Touchet, Senior Director of Family Philanthropy for the Greater Houston Community Foundation, provides strategic guidance. Thank you to the Lilly Endowment and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation for their initial funding for the network’s inception/ creation/ incubation.
Network members exchange ideas, tools, stories, and effective practices through Spark Session webinars, monthly topical calls, and a private Dropbox library. Some previous topics include: staffing your family engagement program, models for engaging next gen donors, working within a family’s advisory team, and educational programs for donor families. In addition, Network members are the only community foundations that can attend NCFP’s popular National Forum on Family Philanthropy. Each Forum features a special in-depth skill-building workshop just for community foundation staff and board members.
NCFP is developing new case studies, articles, issue briefs, and other content to help Network members increase their knowledge and capacity to effectively serve philanthropic families. Network members gain access to NCFP’s Knowledge Center, a digital library of 2,200+ resources that help families transform their values into effective giving that makes a lasting impact on the communities they serve. Topics range from succession and governance to family dynamics and next gen preparation, and from family legacy planning to grantmaking practices.
By mid-2017, we’ll launch two new tools for community foundations:
Community Foundations Family Philanthropy Network members can choose to offer their donor families free access to NCFP’s Knowledge Center and monthly family philanthropy webinars, and discounted attendance to the National Forum on Family Philanthropy. Members can also re-use Knowledge Center articles for donor and professional advisor newsletters, online portals, and education programs.
Community foundations of any size can join the Network any time during the year. We’re offering new members a two-year, discounted Starter package to get to know NCFP and test using our resources for your staff and board members and donor families.
